Homeless and Foster Liaison

At Simon Technology Academy High School, our Homeless and Foster Youth Liaison is dedicated to supporting students facing homelessness or in the foster care system, ensuring they have the resources they need for academic success. If you or someone you know is facing any of the following situations, we’re here to provide assistance:

  • Living in Shelters or Transitional Housing
This includes domestic violence shelters, homeless shelters, youth shelters, FEMA trailers, or any housing supported by programs like transitional housing.

  • Living in Hotels or Motels
Staying in a motel or hotel due to the lack of other housing options, no matter who is paying for the stay.

  • Staying with Others
Staying with family, friends, or others due to housing loss, financial hardship, or similar circumstances.

  • Unsheltered
Living in cars, parks, abandoned buildings, or public spaces, or other substandard living conditions.

Your Rights Under the McKinney-Vento Assistance Act

The McKinney-Vento Assistance Act is a federal law that ensures students experiencing homelessness or in foster care have access to the same educational opportunities as all students. This includes services such as:

  • Transportation assistance
  • Eligibility for special educational programs (such as Title I services, services for students with disabilities, English learner programs, and career/technical education)
  • School nutrition programs

If you think you may qualify for these services, please reach out to Michelle Perez, our Homeless and Foster Youth Liaison, for more information about available support and resources.
