Richard Merkin Middle School (RMMS) is a free public charter school developed and operated by the Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools and authorized by the Los Angeles Unified School District. The school, serving 6-8 graders, opened in September 2005 and is located near downtown Los Angeles.
Designed to prepare students to succeed in high school and continue on a path toward college, RMMS’s educational model focuses on five core values: high expectations for all students, small personalized schools and classrooms, increased instructional time, highly qualified principals and teachers, and parents as partners.

Notification of Gertz-Merkin Title IX Coordinator
Title IX remains a critical federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex (including sexual harassment) in our schools. It protects male and female students and employees in any educational entity that receives federal funds. In addition, Title IX protects transgender students and students who do not conform to sex stereotypes. State law also prohibits discrimination based on gender (sex), gender expression, gender identity, and sexual orientation. The preamble to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 states that:
No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.
