Jonathan Tiongco currently serves as the Executive Director and Founding Principal of the Alliance Marine – Innovation & Technology 6-12 Complex (Alliance MIT). Recognized as the Alliance College-Ready Public Schools Principal of the Year in 2020, Mr. Tiongco has led Alliance MIT to become both the fastest-growing school in LAUSD and the highest-performing school in its region. His leadership is deeply rooted in a commitment to social justice, equity, inclusion, and community empowerment through innovative educational systems and programs.
In addition to his role at Alliance MIT, Mr. Tiongco is now also serving as the Executive Director of Alliance Smidt Tech High School, where he continues to advance a vision of excellence and equity in education.
Before returning to school leadership, he served as Alliance’s network-wide Director of BLAST Implementation, overseeing a portfolio of blended learning schools, including pilots, full-school conversions, and a Next Generation Learning Challenges grantee school. Prior to joining Alliance, he was the School Site Co-Director (Instruction) for Youth Policy Institute Charter Schools, where his leadership helped the school achieve some of the largest academic gains in the district.
Mr. Tiongco’s career began as a middle school teacher, technology coach, service learning and leadership coordinator, and marathon leader. He holds a BA in Sociology from UCLA and an MA in Computing in Education from Columbia University. He and his wife, Sally, are the proud parents of two children, Madelyn and Miles. Outside of education, Jonathan and his family own and operate Six Taste, the highest-rated and most culturally diverse walking food tour company in Los Angeles.
